Artur Baghdasaryan: opening of foreign-language schools does not threaten Armenia’s national security

Orinats Yerkir party supports opening of foreign-language schools in Armenia as a co-author of the relevant bill.

“Children will only gain from increase in foreign languages tutoring level,” Secretary of the RA National Security Council, Orinats Yerkir party leader Arthur Baghdasaryan told a news conference in Yerevan.

“We do not accept primitive surmises that tutoring of foreign languages will be conducted to the detriment of native language. 2 private schools can’t possibly threaten national security,” he stated.

Baghdasaryan characterized concerns over opening of 9 international schools as premature. “We have yet to find governments of 9 states wishing to open schools in Armenia. However, enabling Armenian citizens to receive international education locally, instead of neighboring Georgia, does not oppose national interests,” he concluded.

On June 24, RA parliament supported draft law on the opening of 2 private and 9 international foreign-language schools in Armenia.
