TURKISH BUSINESSMAN DOES NOT RULE OUT “UNEXPECTEDLY SOON” OPENING OF TURKISH-ARMENIAN FRONTIER

The Turkish-Armenian frontier can be opened “unexpectedly soon”, possibly by the end of 2003. Co-chairman of the Armenian-Turkish Development Business Council Kaan Soyak told “Mediamax” agency. When commenting on the recent meeting of the Armenian and Turkish foreign ministers in Madrid, K. Soyak noted that it “has become the expected start of the process of improving bilateral relations”. In his words, the major part of the Turkish society, especially the inhabitants of the eastern regions of the country support the necessity of establishing “friendly relations” between Turkey and Armenia. As the agency reminds, as early as last November K. Soyak noted that the victory of “Justice and Development” party in the Turkish parliamentary election would contribute to the development of the Armenian-Turkish relations.
