The RA National Statistical Service published basic macroeconomic indices on July 20, according to which Armenia’s economic growth totaled 6.7% in the first half of 2010.
Chairman of the RA NA standing committee on Financial-Credit, Budgetary and Economic Affairs, member of the ruling Republican Party of Armenia Gagik Minasyan said that it is a good index for the first half, considering that the index envisaged by the state budget makes 1.2%.
Minasyan pointed to the following indexes: increase in industrial production by 12.3%, in construction industry – 4.1%, while the most considerable decline was recorded in this field last year, as well as 6.1% growth in volume of services, except for trade.
The climatic conditions recorded in Armenia in the beginning of 2010 violated the agricultural cycle, resulting in 13.1% drop in this field, Minasyan told a press conference in Yerevan on July 21.
“The population can trust these indexes, as the drop in agriculture totaled 13%, but at the same time 13% growth was recorded in the industrial field,” he said, adding that 55.9% growth was recorded in export volume that is 2 times higher as compared with increase in import volume (24.4%).
Besides, Minasyan said that 7.3% inflation rate was recorded in the first half of 2010. He added that the inflation rate is still high, but the countries authorities should do their utmost to bring it to the envisaged 4±1.5% by the end of the year.
