According to unofficial statistics, 10-12 thousand Armenians live in Belgium.
“Armenians migrated to Belgium in three flows: in 1915-20, 1940-60 and 1990-ies,” chairman of the federation of the Armenian organizations in Belgium Gevorg Minasyan told a press conference in Yerevan.
“Our main task is the preservation of Armenian identity, specifically the Armenian language. Although about 20 Armenian schools are functioning in Belgium, parents refrain from sending their children there. Only 100 children study in four schools run by Nuard organization,” he said.
Minasyan informed that Nuard closely cooperates with the Armenian Diaspora Ministry, which gifted 2000 primers and 250 books to the organization.
He also noted that Armenia should work out a strategy of collaboration with Armenian communities in various countries.
