Nalbandian breaks through to Rogers Cup quarter finals

Argentine David Nalbandian, who missed most of the last 16 months because of hip surgery and lower-body injuries, defeated fifth-seeded Robin Soderling (4-6, 6-4, 6-1) to advance to the quarter-finals of Rogers Cup, montrealgazette.com reports.

Nalbandian, ranked 45th in the world, has now won 11 straight matches, seven against players ranked in the top 25. He will look to continue his streak against fourth-ranked Andy Murray on Friday.

“I’ve been out a long time on the circuit and I’m really enjoying this time now,” said Nalbandian, who won last week’s Legg Mason Tennis Classic in Washington. “If I lose, that’s fine. But at the moment it’s still working.”
