During the August 12 sitting of Educational Program Licensing Committee, Armenian Minister of Education and Science Armen Ashotyan passed a resolution to deprive 7 private universities of education licenses.
As Deputy Minister of Education and Science Ara Avetisyan told a news conference, “A 15-day survey was conducted in 28 out of 72 private universities in Armenia. Upon its completion, the management of one of the universities announced termination of activities, while certain departments in 6 universities were deprived of license.
Poor qualification of the teaching staff, unsatisfactory equipment of libraries and laboratories, rent conditions were cited among license termination criteria.
The survey will be continued in governmental universities with the results to be officially announced in 15 days.
“The students of private universities with terminated license will be able to continue their education in other universities upon passing the exams required,” Ara Avetisyan stated.
