All-Armenian Chess Olympiad over in Yerevan

All-Armenian Chess Olympiad organized by the RA Diaspora Ministry, Chess Federation and Chess Academy of Armenia is over in Yerevan. The closing ceremony was held on August 23.

CIS team won the team event. Poghos Hayrapetyan (Russia) won the individual competition, followed by Tigran Petrosyan (Armenia) and Krikor Sevag Mekhitarian (Brazil). Diana Arutyunova (Ukraine) won the women’s event. Tatev Abrahamyan (U.S.) was the second while Siranush Andreasyan (Armenia) finished third.

All winners received money awards. The youngest participants – Samvel Sevyan (U.S.) and Manuel Petrosyan (Artsakh) – got special prizes.

“We believe that the Olympiad will become a tradition and will be held twice a year,” said Stepan Poghosyan, Deputy Diaspora Minister of Armenia.

According to Chess Academy director Smbat Lputyan, participation of strongest chess players made the Olympiad attractive.
