Artak Shaboyan: prices for flour low enough in Armenia

Prices for flour are low enough in Armenia, according to Artak Shaboyan, chairman of the State Commission for Protection of Economic Competition.

“The SCPEC started monitoring of the Armenian flour market in July, following Russia’s embargo on grain export,” Shaboyan told reporters on September 6.

“The commission negotiates with grain suppliers and transport companies both in Russia and other countries to bring the prices down 20%,” he said.

Presently, the price for 1 kg of prime flour doesn’t exceed AMD 200, Shaboyan believes.

“The prices for wheat in Armenia are low as compared with the U.S., Europe, Russia and Ukraine. For example, 1 ton of wheat costs $300 in European countries and $320 in Ukraine,” he said.
