ELECTED REPRESENTATIVES REQUIRE SAMTSKHE-JAVAKHETIA GIVERNOR’S REMOVAL

Deputies of the Georgian Samtskhe-Javakhetia province local government organized a protest action against the methods of governing of Governor Gigla Baramidze. As “Arminfo” agency informs, the elected representatives required meeting with President of Georgia Edward Shevardnadze. The action participants insist on Baramidze’s removal. Head of Akhlkalak administration Melik Raisyan, representing Samtskhe-Javakhetia region with Armenian population in the Georgian parliament addressed with the same requirement earlier. He stated “if Baramidze does not resign, mass protest actions of the population will begin in this region”. The local regional organization of the “Union of citizens of Georgia” ruling party also requires the governor’s removal. Its representatives also think that Baramidze has usurped control in the region, does not take into consideration anyone’s opinion and introduce false information about the situation in the region.
