ArmenTel accuses SCPEC of pressure in response to accusation of unfair competition

On September 22, 2010, head of ArmenTel CJSC juridical department David Sandukhchyan said that the RA State Commission for the Protection of Economic Competition (SCPEC) is trying to exert pressure on the company.

Earlier in the day, the SCPEC passed a decision on imposing an AMD 500 thousand fine on ArmenTel for unfair competition.

“The commission's decision contradicts the RA Administrative Code,” Sandukhchyan told a press conference.

"Another process was initiated regarding the company's tariffs, what is beyond the SCPEC competence. We have an impression that the commission is trying to exert pressure on us," Sandukhchyan said.

According to him, the commission has been unsuccessfully negotiating with the company for half a year with respect to two decisions on recognizing ArmenTel a monopolist.

Currently, the cases are in the administrative court. The commission wants to oblige the company to pay an AMD 300mln fine.
