The number of disasters is increasing across the globe, given the population upsurge, the Acting UN Resident Coordinator in Armenia said.
“Big cities are struck by disasters more often. Besides, the population growth hampers poverty reduction efforts,” Ms. Laylee Moshiri said on October 13, marked as Day for Disaster Reduction.
Armenian Minister for Emergency Situations, in turn, said that a national platform for disaster reduction will launch in the republic by the yearend.
“The European Union takes action to prevent disasters all over the world, including implementation of disaster awareness program in the South Caucasus,” said Raul de Luzenberger, head of the delegation of the European Union to Armenia.
