Reports about 1 million of Armenians living in Russia are untrue, according to Karen Aghekyan, editor of Aniv magazine published in Russia and Belarus.
“There is no Armenian diaspora in Russia but small Armenian communities throughout the country,” he said.
“To secure their business, some entrepreneurs keep in touch with the authorities and shoulder the responsibility for the “correct behavior of the community.” They also promise that the community will not be politically active, specifically on April 24,” he added.
Aghekyan also pointed out to the absence of Armenian language classes. “There were some schools in Russia, where Armenian language was taught. Now, there are none,” he said.
