No case of trafficking in children recorded in Armenia in 2010

On November 19, Yerevan hosted an event organized on the occasion of World Day for Prevention of Abuse and Violence against Children.

Chief Inspector of the RA Police Department for Juvenile Affairs Hayk Basilyan said that Armenia’s police attach importance to prevention of this unacceptable phenomenon.

“Violence towards children is a common problem, which needs to be prevented and solved through joint efforts,” he said.

He called on children, who suffered from violence, to apply to the police, which will try to solve their problems. “The police are ready to assist all children, who suffered from violence. They just need to call the police and tell about the fact of violence, leaving the rest on us. Children will be sent to a rehabilitation center to provide psychological assistance to them, if needed,” he said.

Deputy Head of the Police department for Juvenile Affairs in Armenia Nelly Duryan said that there were cases of trafficking of children in Armenia, but similar facts were not recorded in 2010.
