EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT WILL DISCUSS THE PROJECT OF THE REPORT ON SOUTH CAUCASUS

. On June 25-26 the Committee of Foreign Affairs of the European Parliament will discuss the report on the policy of the European Union towards the three countries of South Caucasus. The report particularly says that the European Union has to adopt an active policy in the region and to make contribution to settlement of conflicts and generation of new approaches to development of regional cooperation.
Taking into consideration the fact that Turkey aspires to enter the European Union, the EU is given an opportunity “to contribute to a more flexible approach of Turkey to the regional conflicts, in particular to the relations with Armenia,” – says the project. It points that the Armenian-Turkish frontier and the attitude towards the Armenian genocide are on the first place. “The fact of recognition of the Armenian genocide by a number of European countries gives the European Union an opportunity to make new constructive suggestions. For example, to create a multilateral international commission of historians for examining the problem of the Armenian genocide,” – says the new project of relations between the EU and the countries of South Caucasus.
The final polling on the report will take place on October 1 during the EU plenary meeting.
