Armenia’s ruling party did not favor suggestion on increase of scientists’ pensions

ARF Dashnaktsutyun (ARFD) parliamentary group’s suggestion on introduction of amendments to the law on scientific-technical activities was declined because of the absence of budget means.

As ARFD MP Ruzan Arakelyantold a news conference, the amendments, requiring approx. AMD 700 million, envisaged increase in scientific officers’ pensions.

“The sum required is not too significant for the government. The funding could be procured though medium-term programs implementation,” Ms. Arakelyan stressed.

However, as Republican Party of Armenia parliamentary group representative Karine Achemyan noted, the refusal was explained by the amendments failing to do justice to other pensioners. As the MP stressed, the suggestion must be viewed in general context of the pension reform scheduled for 2011.
