Number of crimes grew 8.8% in Armenia in 11 months of 2010

First deputy head of the RA Police, major general Hunan Poghosyan said that 8.8% growth was recorded in the total number of crimes in Armenia in January 2010 compared to last year. were recorded during this period.

340 out of 1,050 crimes were grave, that is 63 cases more compared to last year, Poghosyan told a press conference in Yerevan.

At the same time, he noted that the number of killings has decreased – 43 cases of murder were recorded against 73 cases last year.

According to Poghosyan, a drop was recorded also in the number of gang offenses, which are mainly committed by foreigners – 110, 63 and 30 crimes were committed by Iranian, Russian and Georgian citizens respectively.

Poghosyan also noted that the biggest number of crimes is recorded in Yerevan.
