An upsurge of illegal drug and weapon trafficking has been reported over January –November 2010, senior deputy chief of Armenian Police, Major General Hunan Poghosyan stated.
As he told a news conference in Yerevan, 1135 instances of illegal drug trafficking were reported in 2010, increasing last year’s data by 305 instances. 72 kg 534 gr. of drugs were confiscated. “Hard drugs are usually imported to Armenia from Iran,” Poghosyan noted.
This year, 16% increase of illegal weapon trafficking was observed compared with 2009. 409 cases of illegal weapon trafficking were reported, with 976 weapon units turned in and confiscated.
