YEREVAN, May 26. /Mediamax/. President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko said today in Yerevan that if the rate of development of Belarus-Armenia ties is kept, this cooperation would hardly yield to the relations of Belarus and Russia, which constitute a union state.
Lukashenko, who is in Armenia on an official visit, said this today at the joint press conference with his Armenian counterpart Robert Kocharian. The presidents of both countries signed today the “Friendship and Cooperation” Agreement. This is the first visit of the Belarusian leader to Armenia.
President Robert Kocharian said that the membership of Armenia and Belarus in the Collective Security Treaty (CST) and the documents approved Friday in Yerevan at the meeting of the leaders of CST member-countries imply military-political cooperation of the two states. According to Kocharian, the development of Armenian-Belarusian relations is somewhat late and this process activated only “after a very open talk” of the presidents of both countries, held 2 years ago. Today, Armenia strives to strengthen and develop cooperation with Belarus in all the spheres of bilateral relations, Robert Kocharian stressed. According to Lukashenko, Belarus has no “secret subjects” to refuse to discuss them with Armenia. –0–
