Armenian painter and journalist Levon Lachikyan expressed his concerns over deterioration of Yerevan’s image caused by street trade.
“We’re losing our old Yerevan to what now can be called an open-air trade fair, with the overpowering smell of lahmajo. This is the reason I approve of the Mayor’s decision to close down street trade,” Lachikyan told a news conference in Yerevan.
“However, I believe the salesmen should not be left without their jobs and creation of civilized minimarkets would be a good alternative in this case,” he noted.
