Although Armenia is situated on drug transportation routes from the East to the West, nevertheless the blockade by some of its neighbors, by a quirk of fate, also blocked illegal drug transit through the country. Armenian foreign minister Vardan Oskanian stated when addressing “Drug routes to Europe via Central Asia” conference in Paris. Thus, as emphasized by the minister, the drug distribution chains both from Turkey and Azerbaijan cannot lie through Armenia. “Terrorism and other threats, which often accompany drug trade also cannot influence us,” – V. Oskanian said. At the same time he regretted that the blockade was nevertheless useless against ungrounded propagandistic accusations addressed against Armenia by its neighbors, including the charges voiced by Azeri delegation members at the forum. The Armenian foreign ministry head emphasized both Armenia and Nagorno Karabakh would only welcome an international delegation’s visit to the region to collect data on the issue. “In reality we called to organize such visits to Nagorno Karabakh many times to dispel such accusations having political underlying reasons,” – V. Oskanian said.
