Carlos Queiroz refuses to lead Iranian national football team

Portuguese Carlos Queiroz refused to lead Iranian national football team, said Director of Iranian Football Federation (IFF) International Committee Abbas Torabian.

Torabian said that Queiroz had emailed him saying that he could take charge of Iranian team. "We had reached agreement with Queiroz in all articles of the contract, but he said in his email that his family would not allow him to stay in Iran."

The Portuguese coach arrived in Iran on February 7 to visit Iran, its football facilities and hold talks with Iranian sports officials.

Also IFF President Ali Kaffashian said that, "we had done all things to sign contract and deliver the team to him. We had agreed on his insurance and paying 20 percent of the sum of money to him initially, but he abruptly refused to stay in Iran under family excuses."

Kaffashian reiterated that there has been no problem in his contract and Iran had accepted all of his expectations.

Kaffashian added, "we intended to conclude a three-year agreement with him, but we opposed paying the whole amount money to him if he wishes to stop coaching the team before end of his term."

The news came whereas some sources said Feb 14 that he has accepted coaching Iranian team, ISNA reported.
