Tatul Manaseryan advises calculating agflation for Armenian agricultural products

Doctor of Economics, professor, founder of Alternative Center for Education, Policy Research and Economic Analysis Tatul Manaseryan said it is necessary to calculate agflation for Armenia, against the background of growth in prices at food markets worldwide, specifically, for agricultural products.

Goldman Sachs international company conducts researches in agflation starting from 2006 and fixed a 50% record-breaking index in 2010, Manaseryan said on February 23, presenting an economic analyses prepared by the center led by him that underscores Real Causes of Inflation.

Manaseryan noted that the real situation in Armenia’s foodstuff market will become clearer, if agflation is calculated, the more so as a considerable growth was recorded in produced output in the agricultural field over the past years.

According to data of the center, 1000% growth was recorded in prices for potato in 2010 compared to 2009, 500% – for apples, 20% – for meat products.

Agflation is a term coined in the late first decade of the 21st century, describes generalized inflation led by rises in Agricultural commodity prices.
