CLAIMS OF AMERICAN AES SILK ROAD ARE ‘HUMILIATING’ FOR ARMENIA, LEADER OF DEMOCRATIC PARTY SAYS

YEREVAN, April 16. /Mediamax/. The AES Silk Road American energy corporation claims for purchase not only of the Yerevan and Sevan distributive power networks but also of Hrazdan State Regional Power Plant (SRPP), the leader of Armenian Democratic Party Aram Sarkisian says.
He said this today speaking at “round-table” session of 25 parties and organizations that are demanding to call off the tender on privatization of all the 4 distributive power networks of Armenia. Sarkisian reminded that the terms of the tender stipulated privatization of power networks, while the AES Silk Road insisted on sale of Hrazdan SRPP, which is an energy generating entity.
According to Sarkisian, such claims of American company are “humiliating” for Armenia and can lead to change of political course of the country. Sarkisian said such a “political deal” is “unallowable”.
The participants of the session informed about their intention to organize a demonstration on April 19 demanding the call off of the tender.
On April 20 the tender commission must name the winners of the tender on privatization of Armenian distributive power networks. After the refusal of the French Electricite de France and the Swiss-Swedish ABB, only 2 companies remain – the American AES Silk Road and the Spanish Union Fenosa. –0–
