Armenia to have real time information on Upper Lars checkpoint

Armenian Minister of Transport and Communication Manuk Vardanyan and Georgian Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure Ramaz Nikolaishvili signed in Yerevan a memorandum of understanding on cooperation for transport infrastructure development.

“Armenia can acquire Georgia’s experience in building high-quality roads. Besides, we should coordinate our activates to implement various regional projects, specifically construction of a motorway through Khulio pass, which could shorten the distance from Armenia to Batumi and Poti by 200 km,” Minister Vardanyan said.

Mr. Nikolaishvili said for his part that Armenia will soon have real time information on Upper Lars checkpoint and the situation on the roads to easily operate cargo transportation. He also said that both Armenian and Georgian companies can participate in road construction tenders.

“If the construction cost exceeds US$2mln, Georgia will announce an international tender,” he said.
