YEREVAN, March 28. /Mediamax/. Maryland State Senate approved a bill on recognizing the Armenian genocide of 1915. The bill was approved by 34 votes against 10. The bill still needs the approval of the House of Representatives of Maryland.
On March 24 the Turkish Zaman paper reported that U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell sent a letter to deputies in Maryland state and said that the U.S. administration did not approve their initiatives for adopting a resolution on recognizing the Armenian genocide. In his letter Powell said that such initiatives affected foreign policy of the United States. –0–
