MEAT AND MILK PRODUCTS ARE BEING CONFISCATED FROM PASSENGERS ARRIVING FROM ARMENIA IN NIZHNY NOVGOROD REGION OF RUSSIA

YEREVAN, March 16. /Mediamax/. Milk and meat products are being confiscated from the passengers, who arrive in Russia’s Nizhny Novgorod region from Armenia.
“Nizhny Novgorod” TV company explains this by the fact that 3 years ago there was an outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease in Armenia, and so milk and meat products, brought from the country without high thermal treatment, could be dangerous.
The epizootic situation in Armenia is stable today, head of State veterinary inspection, Anushavan Aghajanian said Thursday in the interview to Mediamax. He noted that the last case of cattle foot-and-mouth disease was registered in 2000 in Amasia and Ashotsk regions of Shirak district, bordering with Turkey. Import of meat products from European states to Armenia has been prohibited since December 6, 2000, Aghajanian said. At the same time he didn’t comment upon the possibility of re-exporting infected meat to Armenia from other countries. –0–
