YEREVAN, February 19. /Mediamax/. Foreign Minister of Sweden Anna Lindh said in the exclusive interview to Mediamax that the unresolved conflicts in the Caucasus are a major obstacle to regional cooperation between the countries.
Replying to the question of Mediamax concerning the EU’s possible participation in the formation of regional security system or stability pact in the Caucasus, Anna Lindh said, “As long as the preconditions for regional cooperation are not in place there is little chance of drawing up any form of regional stability pact either”.
Regarding the EU’s assistance in the region, Lindh noted that the focus has gradually moved from purely humanitarian contributions to development assistance. Within this framework, the EU is seeking to encourage regional cooperation between the Southern Caucasian countries. –0–
