U.S. PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE TO THE OSCE STRESSED THE IMPORTANCE OF CREATING AN OMBUDSMAN OFFICE IN ARMENIA

09.02.2001, MEDIAMAX, YEREVAN. Ambassador David T. Johnson, U.S. permanent representative to the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), said that a special focus should be placed on the creation of an Ombudsman office in Armenia.
Speaking at the OSCE Permanent Council, Johnson urged Ambassador Reeve to continue his work on developing this key institution, and in supporting the adoption of implementing legislation for an Ombudsman institution this calendar year.
David Johnson also commended the Government of Armenia for its cooperation with and its support for Ambassador Reeve’s office.
The American diplomat noted that Armenia’s recent accession to the Council of Europe and the new commitments that COE membership entails, calls for additional support for the office and for the Armenian Government. -0-
