03.02.2001, MEDIAMAX, YEREVAN. NKR Foreign Ministry spokesman Leonid Martirosian, commenting for Mediamax on the statement of the Turkish Foreign Minister Ismail Cem that after the recognition of the Armenian Genocide of 1915 France cannot take the role of an objective mediator in the Karabakh peace process, noted that “the language of ultimatums, which official Ankara uses, is absolutely inadmissible in inter-state relations”.
Martirosian told Mediamax that the reaction of the Turkish minister clearly demonstrated “that Ankara continues to adhere to the policy of blackmail and threats in everything that regards the Armenian nation”. Actually, Martirosian stressed, to achieve its goals Ankara is ready even to undermine the efforts of the world community in the person of the OSCE Minsk Group, putting the Karabakh peace process under the threat of failure.
“I’d like to draw the attention to the fact that before accusing France of pro-Armenian position, Turkey should objectively assess its own role as a participant of the Minsk process,” NKR Foreign Ministry spokesman said. According to him, the country, which doesn’t conceal its open hostility toward Armenia and openly supports Azerbaijan in its aggressive claims on Nagorno Karabakh, also rendering it military assistance, doesn’t have a moral right to accuse someone in prejudice. “And if to adhere to the logic of Turkey, then the latter should have been excluded long ago not only from the OSCE Minsk Group, but also from all the regional process”, Martirosian concluded. –0–
