TURKEY FORESAW THE INEVITABILITY OF ARMENIAN GENOCIDE RECOGNITION, ONE OF “DASHNAKTSUTYUN” PARTY LEADERS SAID

01.02.2001, MEDIAMAX, YEREVAN. Dashnaktsutyun Bureau member Mario Nalbandian said today at a press conference in Yerevan that Turkey foresaw the inevitability of international recognition of the Armenian Genocide.
Replying to the question of Mediamax, Nalbandian said that retaliatory measures, taken by Ankara, are mainly aimed at weakening the positions of pro-Armenian lobby by stirring up disagreements on Armenian question in Diaspora.
Dashnaktsutyun Bureau member noted that despite the threatening remarks of Turkish officials addressed to the countries and organizations, that recognized the Armenian genocide, Turkey’s wish to enter the European Union is a deterrent for Ankara.
Mario Nalbandian thinks Turkey’s reaction to the Armenian Genocide recognition will not cause changes in the geopolitical balance of the region. -0-
