22.01.2001, MEDIAMAX, YEREVAN. The President of North Ossetia Alexander Dzasokhov spoke today for the soonest meeting of the heads of the four Caucasian states.
As Russian agencies report, speaking today at a press conference, he stated that this must be a meeting “without preliminary agreements of the agenda”. According to Dzasokhov, the heads of Russia, Azerbaijan, Armenia and Georgia must agree upon working out a “common Caucasian policy”. If they manage to establish such a “concept of strategic security in the Caucasus”, then two other states historically connected with the region, Iran and Turkey, will be able to join them, Alexander Dzasokhov thinks.
Armenia speaks for the establishment of a regional security system on 3+3+2 formula (the three South Caucasian states, Russia, Iran, Turkey, as well as the USA and the European Union). Moscow prefers to discuss regional problems in 1+3 format (Russia and the three South Caucasian states). -0-
