BAKU THINKS FRANCE CAN’T BE CONSIDERED IMPARTIAL MEDIATOR IN THE KARABAKH CONFLICT SETTLEMENT

20.01.2001, MEDIAMAX, YEREVAN. The Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan Vilayat Guliyev said the approval of the Armenian Genocide bill by the French National Assembly can negatively influence the mediatory role of France in the Karabakh conflict settlement.
“Such a step by the legislative bodies of the country, which is the co-chair of the OSCE Minsk Group, can’t have a positive effect upon the peace settlement of the Karabakh conflict”, Baku “Yeni Musavat” paper quoted Guliyev as saying. Azeri Foreign Minister thinks the activity of the French parliament is aimed at exerting pressure on Turkey, which will undoubtedly improve the relations between France and Armenia.
The deputy head of the National Independence party of Azerbaijan Ilgar Mamedov declared that henceforth France must quit its duties as a Minsk Group co-chair because it displayed “pro-Armenian position”. –0–
