Amazon.com, online retailer of books, movies, music and games, has recently announced that according to its statistics, people buy more e-books than printed books.
The fact is not surprising, actually, although e-books have their positive and negative sides.
E-books are convenient to use as they do not require much room except for a space in a PC. It is possible to read thousands of pages, without cluttering up the house with dozens of volumes. E-books are extremely comfortable for students, who doesn’t have to carry heavy books in their bags. It’s also a great plus when you go on a vacation. The time has come when it’s enough just to buy an e-reader or netbook to get access to the world of books.
As to negative sides, e-books are said to cause damage to the vision, no matter whether the letters are big or font is nice. Some also warn of radiation, although modern e-readers are made with special e-ink technology, a kind of electronic paper which protects eyes.
The interest Americans take in e-books is surprising. However, the fact might be explained by the high price for printed books.
The world is creating new technologies and developing every day to make humans’ life easy and more comfortable. Nevertheless, Armenian students continue spending money on copying books or buying second-hand books, rather than sit in the reading halls to get the needed information.
Actually, they don’t have any other option because there are no Armenian e-books. The field gradually gaining popularity in the country, as the 21-century students should do electronic search to find the needed information quickly, saving both time and nerves.
