WORLD COMMUNITY FOCUSES ON SECURITY OF THE ARMENIAN NUCLEAR POWER STATION

10.01.2001, MEDIAMAX, YEREVAN. On January 9 Tsakhkadzor hosted the 5th meeting of Nuclear Security Council at the President of Armenia. The Council Chairman, the Director of Nuclear Security Institute of Germany Adolf Berkhofer presided over the meeting, Mediamax was informed in the press office of the President of Armenia.
Speaking at the meeting, Armenian President Robert Kocharian stressed that works on increasing the security of the Armenian Nuclear Power Station (ANPS) have become more effective due to intent attention of the Council members. Besides, Kocharian noted the role of the world community in the matter of financing the measures on increasing the security of ANPS. Financing realized by TACIS program and the U.S. Energy Department is already over, and a new 10 million Euro finance program is approved by TACIS within the framework of agreement with the European Union, Kocharian said.
Armenian President Robert Kocharian received yesterday Nuclear Security Council Chairman Adolf Berkhofer. The sides discussed a number of issues on increasing the security of ANPS. Kocharian voiced confidence that the regular Council meeting would newly stimulate works on increasing the security of ANPS. -0-
