26.12.2000, MEDIAMAX, YEREVAN. The Foreign Minister of Armenia Vardan Oskanian stated today at a press conference in Yerevan that Armenia speaks out against the separation of the Armenian and Christian quarters in Jerusalem.
“We think that at any settlement of the problem regarding Jerusalem’s status, the Armenian quarter of the city should not be separated from the Christian one. Together with the Greek and Latin patriarchies the Armenian patriarchy has been “the Christian face of Jerusalem” in the course of centuries,” the minister said. He noted that on November 30 at the 55th UN General Assembly Armenia declared of the unacceptability of separation of the Armenian and Christian quarters of Jerusalem.
Minister Oskanian also said that Yerevan has repeatedly spoke for the peaceful settlement of the Arabian-Israeli conflict – “within the framework of UN resolution and preserving the right of the Palestinian nation to self-determination”. -0-
