YEREVAN IS SURE ARMENIAN-AMERICAN TIES WILL DEVELOP

26.12.2000, MEDIAMAX, YEREVAN. The Foreign Minister of Armenia Vardan Oskanian said today at a press conference in Yerevan that the development of Armenian-American relations will continue with the US new administration.
The minister noted that this year Armenian-American relations developed “increasingly”. Oskanian especially pointed out the fact of the establishment of an Armenian-American inter-governmental working group.
Minister Oskanian noted that despite the fact that in autumn 2000 the Armenian Resolution was removed from the House agenda under the pressure of US administration, “these discussions played an important role in the process of the international recognition of the Armenian genocide.”
Oskanian also voiced his satisfaction with the fact that in 2000 they managed to preserve in effect the 907th amendment to the “Freedom Support Act”, prohibiting any state assistance to Azerbaijan until it stops the blockade of Armenia and Nagorno Karabakh. -0-
