ARMENIA SPENDS MORE ON ITS DEFENSE THAN OTHER CIS COUNTRIES

19.12.2000, MEDIAMAX, YEREVAN. 3.35% of the gross domestic product (GDP) of Armenia are related to the Armed Forces of the country. Prime-news cites these facts, quoting the chief department of strategic planning of the Defense Ministry of Georgia.
Regarding Georgian Armed Forces, this amount makes 0.49% of GDP, and this index is the lowest in comparison with other CIS states. 2.05% of GDP are related to Azeri Armed Forces, 2.4% – Russia, 1.5% – Uzbekistan, 1.59% – Kazakhstan, 1.55% – Ukraine, 1.3% – Belarus, 3.4% – Tajikistan.
In early November 2000 one of the heads of the military-industrial complex of Turkey Dursun Ali Erdjan stated that Armenia spends 8.2% of its GDP on the defense.
