YEREVAN WELCOMES PROTOCOL ON COOPERATION OF STATES OF SOUTH CAUCASUS AND GREECE IN SEISMIC SPHERE

The inter-regional cooperation on seismic protection may have a serious unifying role considering existing political discords between the states of the Caucasian region, Sergey Balassanian, the Director of the National Service of Seismic Protection of Armenia said in his interview to Mediamax.
A Protocol on cooperation of the national seismic services of Armenia, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Dagestan, Northern Osia and Greece was signed on November 13 in Yerevan.
According to Balassanian the signing of this document was preceded by a serious spade-work. The protocol initiated by the Armenian side was signed upon the end of the international seminar on formation of interstate system aimed at decreasing and controlling the seismic risks on the Caucasus. The seminar was financed by “Eurasia” Foundation.
The document covers such spheres of cooperation as monitoring of seismic dangers, evaluation of seismic risks, work with population and state bodies, preparation of the system of early notification and development of sources of rapid reaction.
Mr. Balassanian underlined that the sides which signed the protocol recognizes the fact that the development of the seismic security system in the region is based on those principles which are worked out and are applied by Armenia. -0–
