ARMENIAN PRESIDENT CONSIDERS DISCUSSION OF ARMENIAN RESOLUTION IN U.S. CONGRESS AS A SIGNIFICANT ACHIEVEMENT

03.11.2000, MEDIAMAX, YEREVAN. “I am sure that the discussion of the resolution on the Armenian Genocide of 1915 in Ottoman Turkey in the US Congress is really a huge achievement, Armenian President Robert Kocharian said in an interview to National TV.
Kocharian stressed that discussion of the issue on recognition of the Armenian Genocide in the Congress at this level is by itself a success. He also said that there was no doubt that in case the voting took place the resolution would be passed. Moreover, the Armenian President said that this theme has never been before in the center of attention of the world mass media.
However, Kocharian said that the most important and valuable is the fact that the issue has started being actively discussed in the Turkish public as well.
“The discussion of the resolution on recognition of the Armenian Genocide we have to qualify as a step aimed at normalization of the Armenian-Turkish relations for a stable formation of these relations is not possible without resolution of this issue.” Turkey is our neighbor and we have to try to have good relations with Turkey in the future,” Robert Kocharian underlined. -0–
