TURKISH-FRENCH RELATIONS WOULD BE SERIOUSELY DAMAGED IF ARMENIAN RESOLUTION IS APPROVED IN FRENCH SENATE

02.11.2000, MEDIAMAX, YEREVAN. In case the Resolution on the Armenian Genocide is approved by the French Senate on November 7 the Turkish-French relations would be seriously damaged. The Turkish mass media says that the Turkish President Ahmet Necdet Sezer has sent such a letter to his French counterpart President Jacques Chirac.
In his turn the Speaker of the Turkish parliament Omer Izgi sent letters to the President of the French Senate and the Speaker of the Italian Parliament with statements saying that no parliamentary speaker in the world has the right to judge another country’s past. In addition, Chairman of the Republican Peoples Party, Deniz Baykal sent letters to the French Prime Minister Lionel Jospin and the representatives of the Socialist Party in the French Senate. –0–
