IN 2001 THE U.S. PLANS TO ALLOT 90 MILLION DOLLARS TO ARMENIA

25.10.2000, MEDIAMAX, YEREVAN. House and Senate conferees today finalized the FY 2001 Foreign Operations Appropriations Bill. The final Bill provides not less than $90 million in US assistance to Armenia and includes funding for confidence-building measures to resolve the Nagorno Karabakh conflict, Mediamax was informed in the Armenian Assembly of America.
The Bill also maintains Section 907 of the “Freedom Support Act”, which prohibits US assistance to the government of Azerbaijan until Baku stops the blockade of Armenia and Nagorno Karabakh.
The next step in the legislative process is a vote in both the House and the Senate on the conference agreement, following which the bill will be sent to President Clinton for his signature. -0-
