24.10.2000, MEDIAMAX, YEREVAN. 136 deputies of the Italian parliament have demanded that Parliament debate the Armenian genocide resolution.
Turkish Daily News expressed the hope today that Italian Parliament’s heavy agenda may prevent its being debated today.
The resolution is the last item on the Italian Parliament’s 14-item agenda. It urges the Italian government to recognize the Armenian genocide.
In the meantime, Justice Minister Hikmet Sami Turk is expected to be in Rome today for an international conference, and observers say that it would be unlikely for the Italian Parliament to approve a resolution recognizing the genocide at a time when a Turkish minister is in Rome.
Majority vote is required for a resolution to be approved in the Italian Parliament. -0-
