23.10.2000, MEDIAMAX, YEREVAN. US Congress discussions of the Resolution on recognition of the Armenian Genocide in 1915-1923 did not have any negative affect on the prospects of normalization of Armeno-Turkish relations, Ara Papian, Spokesman of the Armenian Foreign Ministry stated in his interview to Mediamax.
Moreover, Papian underlined that recently the leading Turkish mass media speak about the necessity to start dialogue with Armenia. The Armenian diplomat reminded that on October 3 the US State Department called upon Armenia and Turkey to start bilateral talks on establishing relations. “Armenia has stated about its readiness to start such a dialogue for several times, and now the final word rests with Turkey,” Ara Papian said.
Spokesman underlined that the Armenian side, in contrast to the Turkish one, excludes any possible preconditions for starting bilateral talks. –0–
