23.10.2000, MEDIAMAX, YEREVAN. French gas company Gaz de France is looking into the possibility of participating in a project to build a pipeline from Iran to Armenia, to supply Iranian gas to Armenian consumers, Company First Vice President Jacques Deyirmendjian said.
According to Deyirmendjian, the implementation of this project will unite two large gas systems- the Russian and Iranian systems-and will also guarantee Armenia’s energy security.
Deyirmendjian noted that the route of the future pipeline is already known. It is necessary to resolve a number of problems for Gaz de France to participate in this project, he underlined.
The construction of the Iran-Armenia pipeline is planned to start in 2001. The pipeline will stretch 140 kilometers and will cost an estimated $120 million. –0–
