20.10.2000, MEDIAMAX, YEREVAN. Congressman James E. Rogan (R-CA) a lead cosponsor of House Resolution 596 – a bill to officially recognize the Armenian Genocide – expressed his regret over the fact that the Resolution is moved from the agenda of the House of Representatives.
In his statement Rogan says that despite of the fact that the Speaker of the House stands for the adoption of the resolution the Commander in Chief asked him to take into consideration the situation in the Middle East.
“While I am personally saddened by this change, I remain pleased with our historic success to enact this resolution. Never before has this legislation earned even a hearing. This year we were able together – to secure not just one hearing, but two hearings, a markup and a scheduled floor vote. That is great progress,” congressman Rogan said. He also said that the supporters of this resolution are sure that as soon as tensions in the Middle East ease, they will again resume their fight to pass this measure.” –0–
