HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES MAY DISCUSS ARMENIAN RESOLUTION TODAY

19.10.2000, MEDIAMAX, YEREVAN. Today, the US House of Representatives may start discussions of the bill of the Resolution on the Armenian Genocide in 1915 in Ottoman Turkey.
The Congressional Quarterly Monitor News writes that two groups of legislators who oppose the bill do their utmost to prevent the discussion. Members of one group stand against the measure qualifying it as a political tool to help James E. Rogan, R-Calif., in a tough re-election campaign. The other group says the resolution will damage political relations with Turkey just as tensions flare up in the Middle East.
It is not excluded that discussion of the resolution may take place October 25. –0–
