IF THE ELECTIONS IN AZERBAIJAN WON’T COMPLY WITH INTERNATIONAL NORMS, ARMENIA WILL RISE THE QUESTION OF ITS SEPARATE ACCEPTANCE TO THE COUNCIL OF EUROPE

11.10.2000, MEDIAMAX, YEREVAN. “On October 12 the session of the representatives of the Council of Europe Committee of Ministers will be summoned. If they decide that Armenia and Azerbaijan are ready to be accepted to the Council of Europe before November 5, then the only thing left will be the realization of this decision. If no common consent is achieved and preliminary conditions are laid down to Azerbaijan, the question will be put off to November 9-10 to be discussed at the meeting of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe”, said the head of the parliamentary committee for foreign relations Hovanes Hovanesian in the interview to parliamentary paper “Hayastani Hanrapetutyun”.
Mr. Hovanesian said that in case democratic elections are held in Azerbaijan on November 5, one can speak about the simultaneous acceptance of Armenia and Azerbaijan to the Council of Europe. If the elections in Azerbaijan won’t comply with the international legal norms, Armenia will rise the question of its separate accession to the Council of Europe”, stressed Mr. Hovanesian.-0-
