THE COURT SESSION FOR THE TRIAL OF THE ASSASSINATION ATTEMPT ON RNK PRESIDENT IS POSTPONED

11.10.2000, MEDIAMAX, YEREVAN. The court session on the case of the assassination attempt on RNK President, being held in Stepanakert, was postponed this morning as the lawyer of Levon Mirzoyan hadn’t arrived from Yerevan to Stepanakert yet. Mirzoyan turned yesterday to the court asking for a counsel for the defense.
It is expected that the trial will proceed as soon as the lawyer arrives in Stepanakert. Meanwhile, speaking to the correspondent of MEDIAMAX, Judge Suren Alexanian didn’t exclude that the break in the process may be delayed a little as Mirzoyan’s lawyer will need time to get acquainted with the case materials making 17 volumes. The final decision on this question, according to Alexanian, will be taken during the court session after the lawyer’s arrival in Stepanakert.
L. Mirzoyan had earlier refused to have a defense.
The trial of the case of the March 22 terrorist act against RNK president Arkady Ghukasian began on September 18 in Stepanakert. The main accused of the case is RNK ex defense minister, Lieutenant-General Samvel Babayan. -0-
