ARMENIA NOT MENTIONED IN US STATE DEPARTMENT ANNUAL REPORT ON INTERNATIONAL TERRORISM

Like last year Armenia is not mentioned in “Global Terrorist Structures” annual report of the US State Department. As reported by “Mediamax” agency, special chapters are devoted to Azerbaijan and Georgia out of the South Caucasian countries. The document notes in 2002 Azeri frontier guards intensified protection of southern borders with Iran and enhanced control at the Baku airport. Meanwhile, as noted by the State Department report, “routes of transportation of Mojahedins, concerned with international terrorist structures, passed via Azerbaijan in the past.” In this respect the US foreign policy department mentions presence of international terrorists, arrived from third countries and connected with Al Qaeda, in the Pankisi gorge as the main problem for Georgia in 2002, as well as numerous Chechen fighters, which posed a threat to the security and stability of not only Georgia, but also Russia.
