04.10.2000, MEDIAMAX, YEREVAN. The U.S. House International Relations Committee passed on October 3 the Resolution of the Armenian Genocide with 24 votes “pro” and 11 “con”.
The Resolution was adopted on September 21st, by voice vote in the Subcommittee on International Operations and Human Rights. It calls upon the President to formally recognize the deaths of millions of Armenians in Turkey between 1915-23 as genocide in the President’s annual April 24th address.
Turkish parliamentarians, who arrived in Washington to counteract the passage of the Armenian Resolution, were present at the voting.
Now the Resolution will be sent for a full House for a vote. -0-
